Translating FotoFusion to another language ::
Interested in translating FotoFusion into another language?
Please lend a hand! We'll give you everything you need.

The work entails translating a list of "strings" (messages) from English into your own language, and then giving us back the results.
We'll publish FotoFusion in your language and thank you publicly for your contribution!
Getting Started ::
Download and install the following program:

http://www.lumapix.com/downloads/v4.0/Translation/Exchange.EXE

This package contains the translatable parts of FotoFusion, together with a free program used to create and test the translated version.

When you get it running you'll see a tree showing the FotoFusion resource structure and a grid showing you English strings with a space where you can enter a translation for each string.

You can select which language you are translating by choosing or adding a new language in the toolbar.
Doing the Translation ::
First, pick the language you intend to translate to by clicking on the language box in the toolbar (to the right of >Run). If you don’t see your language listed, then choose ‘add’ from that list, select from the dialog that appears, and then choose your language from the updated list of available languages. You’ll see the grid in the main part of the UI change to show two columns: English, and your language (filled with a copy of the English version by default).

Dialogs, Menus, etc:
The translation tool shows you all the components of FotoFusion with a language component arranged into a tree; you will find the dialogs, strings, menus, and other common resource types. Simply select entries in the tree and fill the grid with translated versions of each English string you see.

When working in the ‘dialogs’ area, you will be shown a preview of your translations as they will appear in the dialogs in FotoFusion.
You may find that strings don't fit into dialogs after you have translated them.
When you have a dialog item selected, you'll see that you can modify it directly in the translation tool. Just ensure that your changes do not affect the overall size of the dialog.

System Messages:
"SYSMSGS" is a single large text file containing many messages that get shown to users. This needs to be edited outside of the translation tool:

  • Ensure that your language is selected in the combo box in the toolbar
  • Click on the "SYSMSGS" item in the tree
  • Right Click on the "Data Size" item under the translation language and select "Binary Data/Save Original". Save the file as "TEXT.XML" somewhere on your hard drive (even though ‘xml’ is not an option in the file type list).
  • Open the text.xml file using notepad or another text editor and translate the text items you find. Be careful to preserve the file structure!
  • Back in the translation tool, right-click on the 'data size' entry in the tree and choose "Binary Data/Load Translated". Specify the TEXT.XML file.

Help Files:
When the user hits ‘F1’, FotoFusion opens a stand-alone help file containing about 100 pages of text and images.
This help file is *not* included in the localization package.
We will send it to you when we receive the first part of the translation effort (the dialogs and system messages) from you.

Sending the results to LumaPix ::

When you are finished, save your work using ‘save’ entry in the file menu. Send the resulting file (My Documents\Lingobit Localizer\Exchange.LTP) to biz(at)LumaPix(dot)com, together with your contact information.

We will integrate your work and include your translation in the next build we publish!

Thank you for your interest,
